Founded in 1959, Spring Street Preschool sits in the heart of Amherst. Started originally as a church school, we are located in the back wing of the historic First Congregational Church in Amherst. We are a non-denominational preschool and welcome the great diversity of the greater Amherst community. Spring Street Preschool follows the principals of Constructive Play and the Project Approach in our curriculum design as well as the classic “learn by doing” philosophy of John Dewey. Because of our proximity to downtown Amherst we are able to take walking field trips to various places such as the Amherst Fire Station, Jones Library, Police Station, bike shop, etc.as well as walks through the Amherst College campus. We enroll children ages 2 years, 9 months to 5 years old. You’ll find current schedule and tuition information here.
As a not-for-profit organization, the preschool is overseen by an active Parent Board. We support families and welcome all family members. Parents are welcome to visit and help out any time. Families are encouraged to participate in all school functions, fund-raising events, and classroom activities. We also celebrate the diversity of all our families and welcome families of all ethnic, racial, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
Spring Street Preschool is licensed by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Department of Early Education and Care.
